Nicholas Barr, E.I.T. Design Engineer

Nicholas is a Design Engineer with EDG. He graduated from the University of Akron with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and has earned his E.I.T. certificate. He is NASSCO certified in Pipeline, Manhole, and Lateral Assessments (PACP, MACP, LACP). Nick resides in Zoarville. In his free time enjoys hiking, biking, trying out new restaurants, and spending time with his wife, Olivia, and their Labrador Retriever, Cooper.

Kelly Beavers Project Environmental Geologist

Kelly obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Geology from Kent State University. She is currently working toward a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Studies at the University of Akron. Kelly enjoys discovering the history of project sites, performing soil and groundwater sampling, and making old things new again. In her free time, she likes hunting, fishing, camping, boating, country concerts, and being outdoors.

Brad Bendle, P.E. Senior Group Leader

Brad is a Senior Group Leader at Environmental Design Group. He attended the University of Akron where he received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. After a short period working in the public sector, he joined Environmental Design Group where he has worked for over 30 years. He and his wife, Susan, reside in Stark County. They have two children, Caitlin and Andrew.

Rita Boswell Project Coordinator

Rita is a Project Coordinator for Environmental Design Group. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in Communications. Rita lives in Shaker Heights with her husband, two teenage children, and two dogs. Rita also volunteers for a local fair trade non-profit organization that supports twenty-five families in El Salvador. In her free time, Rita enjoys reading, crafting, and watching the Cleveland Indians.

Frank Bronzo Principal

Frank is the Director of the Government Client Service Group. He resides in Akron with his wife, Gina, and daughter, Giana. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, golfing, fishing, and trap shooting. Frank volunteers at his church helping with events to raise money for charity and scholarships. He’s been active with the ASHE for over 19 years and is on the Construction Technology Advisory Board for the University of Akron.

Donald Carey Construction Inspector

Don graduated from The University of Akron with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering Technology. He provides construction inspection and coordination for various roadway and residential development projects. Outside of work he loves mountain biking, listening to music and exploring new places including Peru where he spent five months taking classes and exploring the culture.

John Chizmar, P.E. Construction Inspector

John is a 1978 graduate of Youngstown State University where he earned his Bachelor of Engineering. He worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation for 33 years before retiring in 2011. He is now employed at Environmental Design Group as a part-time Project Engineer. He lives in Boardman with his wife, Karen. They have 2 sons, Jeff, a bio-medical engineer, and Adam, an architect. John enjoys hiking, bicycling, and swimming.

Richard Connair, P.E., CESSWI Construction Project Engineer

Richard has 41 years of experience in quality control for construction of heavy highway and bridges, with additional experience in buildings, dams, and tunnels. He has supervised teams on various projects for all elements of bridge construction and has the knowledge and experience to provide QA/QC for major transportation projects.

Scott Cook, P.E. Senior Project Engineer

Scott is a registered professional engineer in Ohio with over 25 years of civil engineering experience. He specializes in the design of roadways for state, county, and local public agencies. He attended the University of Akron and majored in Civil Engineering. He resides in North Lawrence with his family and in his free time enjoys the outdoors, trips to the North Carolina coast, and keeping in touch with his farming heritage.

Teresa Dalton, P.E. Project Engineer

Teresa is a Project Engineer and registered professional engineer in Ohio. She has been with Environmental Design Group since 2001. She attended the University of Akron where she earned two degrees, a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s in Civil Engineering. Teresa resides in Marlboro Township, Stark County, with her husband, Kevin. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, reading, sewing, traveling, and touring historic homes.

Michael Davidson Designer

Michael is a Designer at EDG. He attended Stark State College and the University of Akron, earning two Associate’s degrees in Civil and Mechanical Engineering Technology, and a B.S. in Construction Engineering Technology. He lives in Cuyahoga Falls with his wife, Lisa, and their son, Grant. In his free time, Michael likes to visit amusement parks, listen to music and attend concerts, dine at pubs/breweries, and vacation with his family.

Jim Demboski, P.E. Senior Group Leader

Jim is a Senior Group Leader in Water Resources at Environmental Design Group. He earned his BSCE from the University of Akron and is a licensed professional engineer, since 1982. Jim and his wife, Peg, reside in Akron and have 8 children and 6 grandchildren. Jim enjoys action adventure stories and movies. Basketball is his favorite sport and he has watched LeBron James play since his freshman year in high school.

Wendy Dixon Accounting Assistant

Wendy has more than 16 years of experience in finance, bookkeeping, and office management. She began her career in internal audit at a national learning center company. Wendy has one daughter and two grandsons. She is actively involved in her church, where she loves to teach and mentor children. Wendy enjoys spending time with family and friends, walking, shopping, drinking coffee, and reading a good book.

James Driscoll Contruction Project Engineer

James Driscoll earned his degree from Kent State University after having grown up in Belair. He and his wife currently reside in New Philadelphia with their two daughters, Jordan and Karlee. Playing golf is a favorite pastime of Jim’s.

Jared Driscoll Construction Inspector

Jared is a Construction Inspector at Environmental Design Group, having graduated from Belmont College. Originally from Belair, he and his wife have one son, Holden. In his free time, Jared enjoys playing golf, video games, and guitar.

Joe Eckerle, P.E. Construction Project Engineer

Joe has over 26 years of experience in quality assurance, heavy highway construction engineering, bridge inspection, and construction scheduling. He has a Master’s in Civil Engineering and also instructs at the University of Akron. In his free time, Joe enjoys bicycling and spending time with his family. Joe and his wife have been married for 41 years. They have two daughters, two granddaughters, and one grandson.

Betsy Ehler Director, Community Initiatives

Betsy has 23 years of experience in environmental engineering and consulting. She obtained her B.A. from Ohio Northern and has a Master’s of Environmental Science from the University of Findlay. Betsy has extensive expertise in brownfields revitalization. She assists over 30 communities nationwide with U.S. EPA Brownfields Assessment and Cleanup Grants, and various state funding programs for environmental projects.

Sandra Ely, PLA, ASLA Senior Landscape Architect

Sandy received her Bachelor’s in Landscape Architecture from The Ohio State University. She is a Senior Landscape Architect for the Institutional Group at Environmental Design Group, registered in Ohio and Michigan. Sandy is a resident of Stow with her husband, Michael, twin sons, Alex and Nick, and their King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Cox. Her hobbies include home improvement projects, scrapbooking, and gardening.

Terry Fercana Director of Business Development

Terry joined EDG in 2014 as the Director of Business Development and has been in the A/E/C industry for 20 years. She is also a Board Member for Weaver Industries, serving the community by helping individuals with developmental disabilities. Originally from Poland, Ohio and a graduate of Kent State University, Terry currently resides in Munroe Falls. She enjoys attending art shows and concerts and going to the casinos.

Clint Flaherty Construction Inspector

Clint has been with Environmental Design Group since October of 2013. He has more than 20 years of experience in providing construction inspection services, and specializes in transportation and construction administration. Clint has an Associate of Applied Science in Civil Construction from Belmont Technical College in St. Clairsville. He resides in Freedom Township with his Daughter, Ilene.

Ray Flasco, P.E. Senior Project Engineer

Ray is a Senior Project Engineer for Environmental Design Group. He attended the University of Akron for his B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He is an Ohio Professional Engineer and EPA Class IV Water Supply Operator. He monitors operations and oversees regulatory compliance for Akron’s drinking water. Ray is married, lives in Akron, and enjoys fishing from his kayak and bass boat. He is also a competitive ping pong player.

Joseph Gotschall, E.I.T. Design Engineer

Joe joined Environmental Design Group in 2014 and is currently a Project Inspector. He graduated with a Degree in Civil Engineering from Cleveland State University in 2012. He lives in Minerva with his wife, Morgen. In his spare time, Joe enjoys writing music and coaching soccer.

Dwayne Groll, P.E., LEED-AP President

With the firm since 1992, Dwayne obtained his BSCE from the University of Akron and his MBA from Malone. Dwayne finds great satisfaction in serving the trusted clients and associates that are the Environmental Design Group family. He, his wife, Lydia, and son, Matthew, reside in Copley from which they strive to make an impact in Ohio and beyond. They enjoy traveling anywhere from Amish Country to our great national parks.

Bill Hahn Arborist

Bill is a Landscape Architect and an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and Municipal Specialist. He obtained his A.S. in Ornamental Horticulture from OSU and has spent most of his career in Akron Urban Forestry as City Arborist and Horticulturist. His passions are aesthetics, valuing trees, the power of colors, presenting plants as workhorses of the environment, and the synergy of the community.

Holly Henriksen, PLA, ASLA, LEED-AP Senior Landscape Architect

Holly is a Senior Landscape Architect in the Parks, Greenways, and Green Infrastructure Client Services Group. Holly graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture and a minor in City and Regional Planning. She has experience in a wide variety of project types, including commercial, retail, institutional, and parks and trails projects.

Katherine Holmok, PLA, ASLA Director

Katherine is a registered landscape architect in Ohio and Pennsylvania and a graduate of The Ohio State University. She is the co-author of the “Green Spaces to Improve Waterways and Communities” chapter included in the WEF’s Green Infrastructure Implementation special publication. She is married to her best friend and photographer, Robert Joseph Holmok. They have one son, Robert David, and a Golden Retriever, Autumn.

Kristen Horine, ASLA Land Planner

Kristen serves as Land Planner where she spends her days designing parks and spreading immense amounts of optimism. Kristen earned her Master’s in Landscape Architecture and Ecological Restoration from Temple University. When she’s not busy planning happy hours as the co-chair of the local ASLA, you’ll find her exploring Ohio’s park systems, teaching her son tree names, or soaking up rays on the tropical shores of Lake Erie.

Pam Horning Accountant

Pam has been with the Environmental Design Group for over 20 years. She attended Stark State College where she earned her Associate’s degree in Accounting. She resides in Stow with her husband, Mark, and two children, Joshua and Jacob. In her free time, Pam enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Tim Jewell Senior Designer

Tim has more than 27 years of experience in the design of private and municipal projects. A notable project in which he was involved includes the development of the Blair Center of Commerce in Columbus, a 1600-acre commercial development. His work includes preparing construction documents for civil projects. He resides in Cuyahoga Falls.

Michelle Johnson Director

Michelle is a Director and joined EDG in 2011. She has a Master’s in Urban Planning, Design, and Development from CSU and a B.A. in Urban and Regional Planning with a minor in Landscape Architecture from Miami University. Michelle lives adjacent to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park with her husband, Dan, and rescue dogs, Madison and Walter. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, skiing, biking, and experimenting with her culinary skills.

Jeff Kerr, PLA, AICP, ASLA Principal

Jeff is a principal at EDG. He attended The Ohio State University where he received a B.S. in Landscape Architecture. He is a licensed landscape architect and a certified planner. Jeff is on the Board of Zoning Appeals in Bath and is also vice chair of the Cuyahoga River Water Trail Partners. He resides in Bath with his better half, Julie, and son, Evan. He relieves stress by golfing, kayaking, running, and pulling weeds in his garden.

Steven Kolarik, PLA Landscape Architect

Steven is a Landscape Architect and has been with Environmental Design Group since 2013. He attended The Ohio State University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture. He currently resides in Wadsworth with his wife, Alissa, and their daughters, Molly and Kate. Outside of the office, Steven enjoys staying active in the local metro parks and gym, traveling, and sampling new cuisines.

Julie Lawson, P.E., C.F.M. Senior Project Engineer

Julie is a Senior Project Engineer specializing in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stormwater and floodplain management. She loves solving complex problems and educating others about technical issues. She earned a BSCE and MSCE from Ohio University. Julie, her husband, Keith, her daughters, Maya and Ava, and their dog, Kali, live in Strongsville. She enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, biking, and volunteering.

Mary Lee Administrative Assistant

Mary enjoys biking, reading, interior decorating, and movies. She currently lives in Stow and her favorite restaurant is Maggiano’s Italian Restaurant.

Andrew Long, E.I.T. Design Engineer

Andy obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Ohio University. Andy is also a registered engineering intern for the state of Ohio. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, wrestling, hiking, listening to music, and playing billiards.

Jenny Lovano Marketing Proposal Coordinator

Jenny is the Marketing Proposal Coordinator at Environmental Design Group. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Bowling Green State University and more than 20 years of experience in graphic design, page layout, print production, and marketing. Originally from Toledo, she resides in Hudson with her husband, Bob. She has three grown sons, and enjoys hiking, biking, traveling, and puzzle-building.

Kyle Lukes, PLA, ASLA Landscape Architect

Kyle is a Landscape Architect at Environmental Design Group. He earned his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with a minor in Sustainable Land Systems from Ball State University. Kyle resides in Green with his wife, Tamara, and their daughter, Audrianna. He enjoys gardening, railfanning, hiking/biking, working on his hobby farm and Wheel Horse equipment, and anything else that involves being in the great outdoors.

Joyce Marzano Senior Ecologist

Joyce specializes in wetland and stream assessments, Section 404/401 permitting, and NEPA studies. She earned her B.S. from Ohio University and M.S. from The Ohio State University. After working in Chicago for 10 years, she moved back to her hometown of Akron with her family. In her free time, she can be found hiking with her husband and two kids in the MetroParks or the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Travis Mathews, PLA, ASLA, LEED-AP Director

Travis attended and played football at West Virginia University where he received his B.S.L.A. During his time at WVU, Travis had the opportunity to play in the Fiesta and Gator Bowls. Today his passions are focused on his family and his role at EDG. Travis has a love for great design. He resides in Medina with his wife, Julie, and sons, Jacob and Eli. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, shooting, and many other outdoor pursuits.

Ben McKeeman Land Planner & GIS Specialist

Ben serves as a Planner and GIS Specialist. After completing his B.A. in Geography in his home state of Georgia, he received his Master’s in Urban Planning from Cleveland State. As a resident and avid supporter of Cleveland, he enjoys exploring the many unique neighborhoods of the city. When Ben is not at work, he can be found in a coffee shop or his kitchen whipping up tasty treats for his friends and coworkers.

Beth Mettle Network Administrator

Beth is the IT Network Administrator for Environmental Design Group. She earned degrees in Computer Drafting and Computer Programming from the University of Akron. She resides in Akron with her four cats. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor, park related activities. She also does fine art landscape and nature photography. Her work can be found at area art shows and exhibited at local businesses.

Nathan Miller Senior Designer

Nathan is a Senior Designer and started with Environmental Design Group in March of 2012. He attended Stark State College where he attained his A.A.S. degree in Civil Engineering and A.A.S. degree in Architecture. Nathan currently resides in Akron with his wife, Tanya, and son, Max, awaiting his second son.

Jim Mitchell, P.E. Senior Transportation Engineer

Jim is a Senior Project Engineer specializing in roadway design. Following more than a decade of working on large highway and interchange projects in seven different states, he now brings a unique big-picture viewpoint to create more focus and personal purpose in his local projects. Jim earned his degree from the University of Akron, resides in Akron, and enjoys just about any long road trip or backpacking trail he can find.

Matthew Montecalvo, P.E. Principal

Matt joined EDG in 2012 and is Principal of the Environmental Client Services Group. He obtained his B.S. in GeoEnvironmental Engineering from Penn State, where he obtained his Ohio P.E. license and became an Ohio Voluntary Action Program CP. Matt enjoys the outdoors with his family and splits his personal time between Cleveland, Columbus, and the hiking trails and kayaking spots in between.

Corey Paparone Environmental Scientist

Corey is an Environmental Scientist at Environmental Design Group. She recently graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Environmental Conservation Biology with a concentration in Policy and Management. Corey is determined to continue her studies in Environmental Biology. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her fiancé, Michael, travel, hike, kayak, cook, read, and cheer for the Cleveland sports teams.

Lisa Post Office Manager

Lisa has been with the company since 2009. She received an Associate degree in Business Management and enjoys spending time outdoors camping, fishing, boating and riding four-wheelers. Lisa resides in New Franklin with her boyfriend, daughter and bloodhound.

Don Rettberg Office Clerk

Don specializes in administrative tasks and has lived in Texas most of his life until moving to Ohio in 2014. Currently, he resides in Macedonia. Don has one sister, Sandy, one brother, Mike, two nieces and one nephew. His favorite hobby is going out to dinner every Thursday night and his favorite restaurant is Lager and Vine.

Rodney Riehl Survey Crew Chief

Rodney has been with Environmental Design Group since 1994. He attended Stark State College and has earned his HAZMAT 40-hour certification. Rodney resides in Ravenna and has lived in Ohio his entire life. He has one daughter, Raeann, who is married. In his free time, Rodney enjoys hunting, fishing, watching sports, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.

Carmen Rodriguez Graphic Designer

Carmen is a graduate of the University of Akron where she obtained her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. She is the oldest of five siblings, and enjoys the outdoors including running and hiking. She’s an artist at heart and loves to paint, and recently started experimenting with photography.

Jeremiah Roth Environmental Scientist

Jeremiah attended Kent State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Conservation Biology. In his free time, he enjoys cycling, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking and running. He also participates with local volunteer groups that impact local watersheds and natural resource efforts.

Krista Rotruck Administrative Assistant

Krista is an Ohio native that moved back in 2013 after living in Florida for 28 years. She currently resides in Cuyahoga Falls with her cat, Bugsy. Outside of work she enjoys reading, going to dinner and the movies. She especially enjoys music and has been to more than 100 concerts since 1978.

Caitlin Russell Urban Designer

Caitlin attended Kent State University where she received her Bachelor’s in Architecture and Environmental Design. She received her Master’s in Urban Design at the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative. In her free time, Caitlin attends community events and plays in a local softball league.

Robert Sabol Design Engineer

Robert graduated from The University of Akron where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering through the Engineering and Honors Colleges. He enjoys playing racquetball and frisbee, is an avid fan of hockey and a lover of theme parks.

George Sendrey, P.E. Project Manager

George specializes in water distribution systems and water treatment. He holds a double Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Mount Union and Mechanical Engineering from Cleveland State. He currently lives in Brecksville with his wife and two kids. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, fishing, playing and coaching soccer.

Shannon Singler Marketing Manager

Shannon studied public relations and minored in marketing at California State University, Sacramento. She has more than 15 years of experience in marketing and public relations with an emphasis in the public sector. Originally from San Diego, California, Shannon and her family moved to Cleveland in 2015, and they especially enjoy the vast park system the region offers.

John Sloan, ASLA Land Planner

John graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology which he utilized as an archaeologist. He received his Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture with a focus on ecological restoration from Temple University. John enjoys woodworking, hiking, camping and spending quality time with his family.

Tiffany Thoma, P.E. Senior Environmental Engineer

Tiffany attended The University of Akron where she earned her Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering. Tiffany resides in Wadsworth with her husband, Brett, and their two children, Kalana and Karalia. In her free time, Tiffany enjoys camping and spending time with her children.

Larry Thomas Contract Administrator

Larry has a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology. He is from Akron, Ohio and has a wife named Barbara. In his free time, Larry enjoys woodworking, golfing, biking, home improvement projects, and website development.

Dave Thornton Survey Crew Chief

David has been with Environmental Design Group since 1993. He resides in Plain Township and has two daughters, Samantha and Dana. In his free time, Dave enjoys fishing, shooting, and reading.

LuAnn Unrue Principal

Lu Ann is a Principal and Director of Marketing for EDG. She started with the firm some 30 years ago and loves to interact daily with the great group of people at EDG to drive strategy and growth for the firm. She resides in Stow with her husband, Robert, her two grown children, Ashlee and Robert and her dog, Zorro. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, baking, traveling and watching sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jill Pfeiffer-Ward, P.E., LEED-AP, CPESC Project Manager

Jill is a certified LEED AP, CPESC and ODOT prequalified Construction Engineer. She received her Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from The University of Akron and lives in Canton with her wife, Jennifer and their son, Nikko. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, gardening, hiking and attending scouting events with her son.

Bob Warner, P.S. Principal

Bob is a Principal and serves as Director of Surveying, Residential and Land Development. He graduated from The University of Akron and holds a license to practice land surveying in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and West Virginia. When not working, Bob enjoys studying history, and working on his home and yard.

Reneé Whittenberger, P.E. Senior Project Manager

Reneé earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Akron. Reneé has a passion for community and city enhancement through transportation infrastructure and design. She prefers biking as a means of transportation, kayaking on Portage Lakes with her husband, and captaining her women’s rugby team.

Julio Williams, P.E., CPESC Senior Project Engineer

Julio graduated from New York University Polytechnic School of Engineering and has experience in commercial site development, stormwater management, airport improvement and heavy highway construction inspection. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He loves to read biographies and participate in anything involving family, friends, competition, or the outdoors.
